Keanu Reeves is joining in with the latest trend of Hollywood actors heading to the small screen for the juicy roles. The actor is set to star in and produce an action drama called Rain which will be based on the best-selling book series by Barry Eisler.
We haven't seen The Matrix star in a lot in recent years, his IMDB profile does seem to have a few flicks in post-production though, so maybe this will be Reeves comeback, the Reevenaissance! You heard it here first.
He will play the character of John Rain in this new series, who is described by Deadline as 'a half-Japanese, half-American contract assassin who specializes in taking out his targets by making it look like death by natural causes.' Like totally rad dude! (Apologies, Keanu will always sound like a surfer to us, it's Point Break's fault... and a lot to do with Bill and Ted too.)
You may be wondering about the half-Japanese aspect to his character, Reeves himself is not of this descent but he does have an Asian/American grandmother, so it's a bit of a jump but we'll buy it.
He will executive produce alongside directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, who also directed him in his upcoming movie John Wick. The show will be an hour-long series and will be developed by the newly set up Slingshot Global Media. David Ellender, founder of the company said; "We are extremely excited to be working on a beloved property with such a talented and hard-working actor as Keanu. This series will be the launch pad for the company and highlight our talent-focused, quality-based approach within the ever-changing and expanding television space."
Reeves himself also added; “As a huge fan of Barry’s (Eisler) work, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to bring his iconic character and incredible world to life. I’m looking forward to partnering with Slingshot on my first series, and reteaming with Chad and David."
