Jon Stewart's planned animated series for HBO has been cancelled.
The New York Times are reporting that Stewart at the network decided not to move forward with their plans for the series that was supposed to be Stewart's next step in his post late night career.
Stewart signed a deal with HBO at the end of 2015 to create digital shorts for the network that would appear on their apps, HBO Now and HBO Go. However, eighteen months down the line, both parties have agreed to shelve the project due to the project being significantly more complicated than either of them expected.
“HBO and Jon Stewart have decided not to proceed with a short form digital animated project,” HBO said in a statement. “We all thought the project had great potential, but there were technical issues in terms of production and distribution that proved too difficult given the quick turnaround and topical nature of the material. We’re excited to report that we have some future projects together, which you will be hearing about in the near future.”
Stewart has a four year contract with HBO and is expected to pursue other projects with the network.
