The Irish Sun is reporting that Johnny Lydon - yes, Johnny Rotten - of Public Image Limited and Sex Pistols fame could be on his way to Eurovision to represent Ireland. Apparently, songwriter Niall Mooney has penned a song described as a crossover between country and punk, with Lydon more than willing to take on the song for Ireland.
In a statement given to the Sun, Lydon said that it "would be a great honour for me to represent Ireland for the Eurovision Song contest." While Lydon's parents were Irish immigrants, he said in 2013 that he views himself as "British first and foremost."
A decision is expected by RTE in the new year if Lydon will be selected as a candidate for Ireland.
