Although it never aired on this side of the Atlantic during its initial run in the '90s, Jim Carrey became a hit with audiences through In Living Color, a sketch comedy show which used pretty much all of Carrey's comedic talents and rubber-faced antics to their full potential.
After In Living Color, Carrey went on to do Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and the rest is history. Although he turned up in the odd cameo on TV - such as The US Office - Carrey hasn't made a full return to television. Until now, that is.
It's understood that Carrey is reteaming with Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry for a new dramedy series called Kidding, which sees Carrey played a beloved children's entertainer in the vein of Mr. Rogers, who's described as "an icon of children’s television, a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds and the parents who grew up with him."
Before long, Carrey's character finds that as his family implodes, "no fairy tale or fable or puppet will guide him through this crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope." The first series has been given a 10-episode run on Showtime, which means it should turn up on Sky Atlantic over here.
No air date has been confirmed, but expect this to crop up on screens in the new year.
