The perma-pregnant Fashion Star mentor - who previously starred in her own reality show with ex-husband Nick Lachey called Newlyweds, in case your brain had managed to blank that out - has revealed she is filming a new scripted pilot for NBC inspired by her life. In other words, it's a sitcom.
The 32-year-old former singer - who shares an eight-month-old daughter Maxwell with her fiance Eric Johnson - told the Hollywood Reporter: 'I am so excited to work with Ben (Silverman) and NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy. I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life (like your parents splitting up because your dad turned out to be gay) - so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing!"
Producer Silverman, who is helping with the pilot, also said: "Jessica Simpson is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops (yes, but are they intentional, Ben). From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud."
Jessica recently revealed that motherhood is the most "challenging" thing she has ever experienced, and admits she feels "awful" when her work limits the amount of time she can spend with her daughter.
She explained: "Motherhood is the best thing I've ever experienced - and the most challenging. On some of the days of Fashion Star (plug, plug, plug), I'm awake before Maxwell is awake, and I'm not home until she's already back to sleep. That's only happened about four times, but it makes the day awful. I definitely need to see my baby. I get really sad if I don't get to see her. And then when Maxwell sees me, she just stares at me and touches my face. I can tell she missed me. That breaks my heart."
