The verdict from fans of the show was not good, but why listen to them when you can hear from former and current hosts?
James May, who is presumably busy shooting and tweaking Amazon's 'The Grand Tour' with fellow former 'Top Gear' hosts Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, took the time to tweet that he was looking forward to watching the new version of the show. Mostly because he'll get to watch "without knowing what happens in the end".
I'm really looking forward to watching Top Gear without knowing what happens in the end. #NoSpoilerAlert

New host Chris Evans on the other hand was quick to defend the show, declaring it a "hit" before shouting a lot about "FACTS". Someone's clearly a little touchy.
The new Top Gear is a hit. OFFICIALLY. 23 % audience share. 12% MORE than the opening episode of the last series. These are the FACTS.

No word yet from Hammond or Clarkson, but it's probably better for everyone if it stays that way.
