As soon as those seashells fell of we knew there'd be trouble, and now ITV has had to come out in defence of Lady Gaga after more than 200 viewers complained about her rather strange routine on Sunday night's X Factor.
ITV logged 60 complaints about the singer's performance which featured a medley of ARTPOP tracks Do What U Want and Venus. The viewers in question weren't at all impressed with Gaga's decision to flail about while wearing flesh-coloured underwear and a seashell bra. Broadcast regulator Ofcom received another 200, bringing the number of complaints to a solid 260.
The broadcaster defended the star today, arguing that her performance was not unsuitable for a pre-watershed audience. "We do not believe Lady Gaga's performance was inappropriate for the family audience of the X Factor Results Show, which has an established tradition of featuring performances from the biggest music stars" the broadcaster said. "Lady Gaga is well known for her highly individual performance style."
If we're being honest, we thought the whole thing was far more strange than scandalous... What did you make of the err, Gaga, routine?
