This time last year we were all well under the thrall of True Detective and its bizarre mix of cop buddy drama and murder mystery thriller, but 12 months on and we're all still sitting around waiting for season 2 to even get a premiere date, let alone anything concrete other than the casting.
Thankfully though, if Movie Pilot is to be believed, the plot for season 2 of the HBO show starring Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, Rachel McAdams and Vince Vaughn may just have been revealed, or at least the plot of the first episode.
Per Movie Pilot:
The season is due to kick off with the dead body of a corrupt politician being found along the Pacific Coast Highway with satanic symbols carved into his chest. California Highway Patrol officers Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are assigned the case. It turns out the victim is a known associate of Vince Vaughn’s character and this dead man had a dark side involving some associations with S&M clubs – but perhaps most importantly, the man was in the middle of brokering a big deal that would solve the state’s gridlock problem.
As for McAdams' role in all this, she's said to be a local sheriff on the case 'who has a different set of ethics that puts her at odds against Farrell, who is described as a detective that has deep ties to the mobsters that are corrupting the police force'. Vaughn's character is supposedly trying to break free from the mob and become a legit businessman, but knowing what True Detective is like, we can't see that happening fast or even at all.
Even with all that, we're still minus an air date, with 'summer' and 'fall' being bandied about as vague possibilities. Fingers crossed it gets in front of our eyeballs in 2015.
