It's not just Hollywood that saw the Irish make a big impression over the past year.

While many of our actors and creators received nods for their work on the big screen, several Irish shows have made their mark on TV, too - as last night's TV BAFTAs demonstrated.

'Derry Girls' won Best Scripted Comedy, with its writer and creator Lisa McGee making a great acceptance speech for the show which concluded in 2022.

Cork native Siobhan McSweeney also took the BAFTA for Female Performance in a Comedy Role for her part as Sr. Michael in the sitcom, while Ann-Marie Duff took the Supporting Actress award for her role in 'Bad Sisters' (okay, she's second-generation Irish, but the show is written by an Irish women, has a predominantly Irish cast, so we'll claim her.)

'Bad Sisters' also won the BAFTA for Best Drama `Series.

Other big winners on the night included Ben Whishaw for his role in 'This is Going to Hurt', and Kate Winslet for her role in 'I Am Ruth', which saw her act alongside her real-life daughter Mia Threapleton, who watched in tears as her mum collected the award with an impassioned speech about the dangers of social media amongst young people.
