It was the talk of the town last March when Jeremy Clarkson was dismissed by the BBC for what was referred to as a 'fracas' with a fellow employee. The incident saw Clarkson punch his producer Oisin Tymon at a hotel when it emerged there was no hot food available at the end of a day's shooting on location. Sometimes hangry has a high price folks...
Irish man Tymon, who had worked on the show for almost ten years, is now suing Clarkson and the BBC over the incident for racial discrimination as the attack also involved 'verbal abuse' apparently.
It's reported that lawyers for Clarkson and the BBC attended a closed-door hearing with Oisin Tymon's legal team at a London employment tribunal on Friday, with lawyers Slater & Gordon confirming that they had been working with the producer.
A statement by the BBC said: "We will be responding to this claim, but will not be commenting further at this time."
At the time of the incident, Oisin did not want to press charges however he was also the victim of a torrent of social media abuse following Clarkson's sacking, with the former Top Gear presenter defending him to the press saying; "I wish people would leave Ois alone because none of this was his fault."
While Tymon released a statement at the time saying; "I respect Lord Hall’s detailed findings and I am grateful to the BBC for their thorough and swift investigation into this very regrettable incident, against a background of intense media interest and speculation.
"I’ve worked on Top Gear for almost a decade, a programme I love.
"Over that time Jeremy and I had a positive and successful working relationship, making some landmark projects together. He is a unique talent and I am well aware that many will be sorry his involvement in the show should end in this way."
Looks like the consequences of this ordeal won't be over any time soon for anyone involved. You will however see Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May back together for a new show on Amazon Prime next year.
Always lands on his feet, that Clarkson.
