In what we can only hope is some excellent foresight by Homeland creators, the show is set to have a female president in their upcoming sixth season. The news comes just days after Hillary Clinton has secured the Democratic nomination putting her in line to become the first female POTUS.
Actress Elizabeth Marvel has signed onto the political thriller starring Clare Danes and is set to play president-elect Elizabeth Keane, who is described as a "bright, charming, lively, and blunt" former junior senator who has yet to be inaugurated when the sixth season kicks off.

Funnily enough, Marvel played a similar role in House of Cards when she portrayed presidential candidate Heather Dunbar for three seasons.
Homeland will return to our screens in early 2017, where production will move back from Europe to America with the storyline set in New York.
