The second season finale and Claire Danes'  iconic cry face may have split the audience, but that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of hype surrounding the return of multi-award winning drama Homeland.

Damian Lewis and Danes have both spoken about the show's future already, and now producer Bert Salke is weighing in, telling The Hollywood Reporter that season 3 most definitely takes things up a notch in the emotional stakes. More cry face for everyone, huzzah!

"There are bigger developments character-wise this year than there have been. It's a more emotional show this year, and 2.0 means that other characters are going to come in." Salke said. "It's [also] a very big development season for Mandy Patinkin's Saul, and for Quinn (Rupert Friend), too."

He says that the best is yet to come for fans of the series, claiming that the scripts for season 3 are the absolute cream of the crop. "The best Homeland script that I've ever seen writing-wise was this year - best one I've ever seen," he said. "As opposed to the way some things went down last year, there are definitive answers here - and a development that nobody is thinking about that is personal and awesome." We're just hoping there'll be some truly 'Damian Lewis dance' inspiring stuff on offer.

Catch Homeland Season 3 on Channel 4 from October 2013.
