To be fair, we were all a little bit curious as to what exactly was in the contents of Daenerys' Starbucks cup - and now HBO have released an official statement on the matter.
"The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea," the company stated in a press release yesterday. Just to double-down on the whole thing, the episode's art director Hauke Richter spoke via e-mail to Variety on the issue.
"Things can get forgotten on set," said Richter, setting the world record for stating the obvious. He went on, adding that the social media reaction to the Starbucks cup - henceforth known as 'Starkbucks' - was "so blown out of proportion" because it's never happened on 'Game of Thrones' before.
To be fair, he's right. Gaffes of this kind are incredibly common in major movie productions. For example, you can clearly see a guy wearing a watch in the middle of 'Braveheart' and there's numerous scenes in 'Gladiator' where the crew is clearly visible.
Point is that gaffes are common, but come on - that Starbucks cup was RIGHT THERE, like.
