In previous years, most of the attention at the Golden Globes has been on the movie side of the room but thanks to the like of Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Ewan McGregor and other A-listers making the move to TV, the ballroom at the Beverly Hilton was rammed full of stars on both stars last night.

Nicole Kidman took home the first award of the night and it proved to be the first award of many for 'Big Little Lies' as the show went on to win four awards, with Alexander Skarsgard, Laura Dern and the show itself all picking up Golden Globes.

Kidman used her time at the podium to celebrate her fellow nominee,co-star and co-producer Reese Witherspoon, as well as her castmates Zoe Kravitz, Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley, who she said "pledged allegiance to each other" and that the award was theirs to share.

She also spoke out about abuse, the topic of the night and something that was integral to her performance in the show, saying: "This character that I played represents something that is the center of our conversation right now: abuse. I do believe and I hope that we can elicit change through the stories we tell and the way we tell them."

Elsewhere, 'The Handmaid's Tale' followed up its Emmy success with a win for the show and for Elisabeth Moss, while Amazon's 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' surprised everyone by beating out the competition and taking home two awards as well.
