The love story between Chandler and Monica is one of the most enduring of any sitcoms.
However, according to one actress, it may not have been viewed in that way by fans, if 'Friends' writers had had their way.
Lisa Cash, an actress who had a role in 'The One in Vegas: Part 1', has revealed that she was initially cast as a hotel worker whom Chandler has a tryst with.
Cash told TMZ that she had rehearsed the scene with the late Perry, after he has an argument with Monica over meeting her ex Richard for lunch.
"I came in as a guest star and I was super excited," she said. "The scene was Chandler and Monica were arguing in Vegas about having lunch with Richard. Initially in our script, Chandler goes up to the hotel room, orders room service and I bring it up [to him] as a hotel worker. We end up talking and laughing and connecting and Chandler ends up cheating on Monica with my character."
However, just before they shot the scene, she says she was told that Perry "went to the writers and said the audience would never forgive [Chandler] for cheating on Monica. He was probably right! That would’ve changed possibly the course of the show and his character."
Cash's role was subsequently cut, although she was re-cast as a flight attendant in a scene with David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston. "I felt so comfortable," she said of Perry. "He was so likable and welcoming and just made me feel at ease. I had so much fun. It was so much fun doing the scene with him and it was easy."
Perry's private funeral took place in Los Angeles last Friday, with his former castmates in attendance.
