Tensions ran high last night during the voting stages of the Eurovision, and one of the most controversial parts of the night was when Ireland - fronted by Nicky Byrne - announced that it had given zero points to the United Kingdom.

The moment was widely commented, with Innocent Drinks - yes, really - coming in for criticism for their reaction to the moment. One Tory councillor, however, took it way too far. Nick Harrington, a Councillor with the Conservative Party in Warwick Council, tweeted the following: "#Eurovision2017 thanks Ireland. You can keep your f'king gypsies! Hard border coming folks!"

In the wake of the backlash, Cllr. Harrington deleted the tweet in question - and then his entire Twitter account. That wasn't enough to save him from suspension from Warwick Council, which was confirmed to media earlier today.

Andrew Mobbs, the leader of Warwick Council, confirmed that Cllr. Harrington has been suspended for six months and that there will be an investigation into the incident.

The United Kingdom finished in 15th place, with calls for the United Kingdom to resign from the competition once Brexit is complete.
