Considering how overwhelmingly negative the response was to Ed Sheeran's cameo on Game of Thrones, it's little wonder that people are wondering if his character was charred to a crisp during Daenarys' stunning attack in this week's episode of Game Of Thrones.
In an interview with Mashable, the director of this week's episode - Matt Shakman - was flat-out asked if Ed Sheeran's character was killed in the attack on the loot train. His answer, however, is pretty clear - Sheeran's character was not in the group of soldiers who met a fiery death. "The idea behind the question is an interesting one and I think the earlier scene that was so great with Arya meeting those Lannister soldiers, where we humanize what those Lannisters are like, that they’re generous with her, only helps this sequence because it helps you feel for the men who are shaking in terror as their death is upon them."
Yeah, sure, emotional context is good - but we need to know if Sheeran is ever coming back into the TV show. "I don’t think literally those soldiers were there," said Shakman.
That means that Sheeran's character is still out there with that group of soldiers, probably talking about some fair-haired girl he knows and singing bland folk songs about her while the group of soliders consider murdering him and leaving him in a ditch to bleed out for days before the Night King comes along and turns him into a zombie.
If Ed Sheeran's character comes back as a zombie, Game of Thrones will have gone too far.
