Matt Smith's replacement will be announced later rather than sooner. According to reports today, we are looking at an announcement in August or September as to who the lucky actor will be to become the 12th Doctor Who.
Ever since Matt Smith announced his departure there have been plenty of rumours circulating with actors being suggested for the role, actors denying any involvement in the role and those eager to get the role. This week alone Julian Rhind-Tutt, Burn Gorman, Emun Elliott, Richard Coyle, Rory Kinnear and David Harewood have all been added to the mix. The show is to begin filming it's Christmas Special in August or early September with the replacement due to be announced prior to this.
Actors already linked to the role include Domhnall Gleeson, Dominic Cooper, Ben Daniels, Daniel Radcliffe and even Helen Mirren. However, Gleeson has already denied any involvement in the programme. Radcliffe also ruled out the possibility of it being him . Speaking to The Sun, Radcliffe said 'I've done one iconic character, that might be enough.' 'I don't know if I could play [the Doctor], Matt Smith plays Doctor Who and does a wonderful job. They don't need me. I would never presume to jump into somebody else's franchise, not at all,' he added.
Doctor Who will return for it's 50th Anniversary special on November 23rd. Until then we shall have to keep on guessing as to who the new Doctor will be.
