Fans of The Fall may not have known it but they got two Dornans for the price of one last Sunday.
Interviewed by The Belfast Telegraph about his role in the series, Professor Jim Dornan told the paper how he became involved: ‘It was the writer and producer Allan Cubitt's idea. I met Alan socially and he asked me to take part in The Fall. He really wanted me to do it for Jamie.’
And reportedly his son Jamie had no idea (imagine finding out your dad is going to star on the same show as you – cringe!). Jim explained: ‘Jamie had finished filming and had no idea I was going to be in it. It came as a real surprise when he found out.’
Professor Jim Dornan is a retired obstetrician and gynaecologist, who had once considered acting as a career – ‘I certainly would have considered acting as a career if medicine hadn’t worked out.’ He abandoned acting, however, when he became a father to Jamie (aww).
His role in the thrilling BBC produced series was a cameo as John Porter. He was one of the members of a Policing Board who were quizzing Chief Constable Jim Burns (John Lynch) over Spector's case.
Jim's line was 'Can the Assistant Chief Constable please provide us with an update on the progress of the Operation Music Man taskforce?' He admitted that he struggled with it a little and even 'thought [his] scene would end up on the cutting room floor.'
The Fall continues on RTE One on Sunday at 9.30pm.
