If you're massive Marvel supehero fan then you'd best hold on to your hat because Netflix has just signed a seriously sweet deal that will see a whole lotta superheroes coming your way exclusively via the streaming site.
Marvel will premiere not one, not two, not three but four, yes FOUR brand new live-action series on Netflix in the not too distant future, including a Daredevil series (sans Batfleck, we're guessing) and new shows based on Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. For those of you who aren't familiar with those names, they're all pretty well known Marvel comics characters.
All of the shows will share the same universse, set in Hell's Kitchen, New York, and their story arcs will unfold over a number of years. Each character gets their own 13-episode series, with the end goal of bringing them all together (ala Avengers Assemble no doubt) in a mini-series which will be known as Marvel's The Defenders.
"This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel's brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling," said Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment."Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel's speciality. This serialised epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television, and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what's sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure."
"Marvel's movies, such as Iron Man and Marvel's The Avengers are huge favourites on our service around the world. Like Disney, Marvel is a known and loved brand that travels" Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos added. "With House of Cards and our other original series, we have pioneered new approaches to storytelling and to global distribution and we're thrilled to be working with Disney and Marvel to take our brand of television to new levels with a creative project of this magnitude."
Keep your eyes peeled for Daredevil, which kicks the whole thing off, in 2015.
