We gotta say, we didn't see this one coming, who would? It seems the former star of The X Files is a man of many talents though, and has been playing the guitar for a whole two years now, so naturally he wants to start recording some music.
The 53 year old has in fact formed a band with two of his mates and they are hoping to spend some time in the studio next month. Yeah... was this some teenage dream he didn't get to fulfil or something?
Speaking about his new venture Duchovny said: "I play every Sunday night with my (buddies)... I kind of teach myself (the guitar) and they teach me. I've been writing music. Maybe next month we'll record."
The Californication star is also keen to show off his vocal skills on the album, adding: "I'm trying to sing better. I write my own songs so I get to sing them."
Hmm well good luck? We won't be holding our breath for a number one any time soon though.
In the meantime, he has plenty of TV work to keep him busy with it recently announced he was set for a brand new TV drama about renowned serial killer Charles Manson. While his most recent series 'Californication' will end after its seventh season which is just currently airing State side.
We also unearthed this video from the YouTube archives of what seems to be David Duchovny rapping/singing/being sh*tfaced in a bar... it's not bad, but wouldn't give up the day job quite yet Duchovny.
