RTÉ's brand new drama series 'Smother' began last night, with viewers seemingly invested in seeing how the whodunnit is solved.
Starring Dervla Kirwan, Seána Kerslake and many other recognisable Irish talent, 'Smother' kicked off at the weekend. Set on the blustery west coast of Ireland in County Clare, the first episode managed to hook in its audience by going all out on the "it could be any one of them" dynamic.
Following the mysterious death of her husband Denis (Stuart Graham), Val's (Dervla Kirwan) 50th birthday celebrations come to a definite halt as she grapples with the loss of her husband, as well as the discovery that maybe his death wasn't an accident after all. By the end of the episode, Val finds out that due to his questionable business choices, Denis could have been a target by one of her family.
But - who could it have been? Judging by the look on the family's faces, everyone is a suspect. They may be grieving, sure, but there's certainly more than a few skeletons in the closets in this dysfunctional family.
Well, once you've figured out who is who in the Ahern family (and have realised where you've seen each of the actors on screen before), it's time to start suspecting everyone as the potential murderer of Denis. Hopefully, episode two will shed some more light on who the culprit might have been.
Here's some of the reaction the first episode of the series has been getting on Twitter. There was a lot of love for the beautiful scenery of County Clare, as well as Moy House in Lahinch, the location of the Ahern household.
'Smother' continues on RTÉ One next Sunday at 9.30 pm. If you missed an episode, you can play catch up on the RTÉ Player.
