Well here's two names we definitely DIDN'T expect to see next to the words 'True Detective'. According to TheWrap.com and a few other places, it looks like our very own Colin (in all in anyways) Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are going to be replacing Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the hit HBO crime series. As of right now, however, it's just speculation although this is the most solid piece of news we've heard in weeks.
Almost since the final episode aired, rumours have been flying at lightspeed about who's going to replace the leads. Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, Christian Bale and a good few others were mooted as possible choices, however this sounds like it could be the most solid news we've heard in some time.
Showrunner Nic Pizzolatto has said that he threw out most of the first drafts of the second season, claiming he was writing to expectations and criticisms and not his own ideas. What do we make of Farrell and Kitsch? By our count, this will be the first time Farrell's returned to TV since - gulp - Ballykissangel. Kitsch, on the other hand, rose to prominence via Friday Night Lights.
For both of them, however, it seems like working on a hit show will do their careers a world of good. Farrell's last film, A Winter's Tale, didn't exactly wow audiences and Kitsch has been synonymous with the critically-mauled John Carter. Both of them are very decent actors who have been marred by circumstance.
It'll be interesting to see if they get it and if they do, how they'll fit into the world set up by the first one. Keep in mind, McConaughey and Harrelson had already worked together several times and both actors are currently in a very impressive hot-streak.
