Ever since Vince Gilligan announced there would be a spin-off to Breaking Bad focusing on the character of Saul Goodman, the world and its missus have been speculating whether or not the show's stars would be making an appearance. Bryan Cranston has said now though that it's an out-and-out no as it just really wouldn't make any sense. Ah we know Bryan, but will you not humour us!
He told the Daily Beast: "I think it was on the Ashley Banfield show on CNN, and she brought up the speculation. I was just toying with her and said, 'I don't know!' which created a whole brushfire of rumour."
"I don't think that we're going to see any kind of rebirth of that show, or that character. I don't know in what context it would work in, because we're in different phases."
Cranston went on to say: "The characters didn't meet until the second season of Breaking Bad, when Walter needed to meet him. I suppose they could have a serendipitous brush off each other down the street or in the market, but I don't know what good that'll do - it's just a little cookie."
However, the award winning actor did say that he would be returning to the show to direct an episode of Better Call Saul adding that he was looking forward to returning to the set; "It's family. They've got the same crew, and it's exciting to think that we can rekindle that flame; that it's still alive."
Cranston directed a number of episodes of Breaking Bad so no doubt he will make his mark on this spin-off. Sad that we won't see him in the flesh but we are still holding out hope for a young Jesse Pinkman to pop up somewhere.
Better Call Saul will debut in February 2015 and has already been renewed for a second season.
