Let's cut to the chase. There are several winners I didn't agree with (essentially anything Steve Coogan failed to win), and a few that were very agreeable indeed. Namely Charlie Brooker winning Best Comedy Entertainment Personality - which must have been a kick in the teeth for Graham Norton - Morgana Robinson bagging Best Comedy Breakthrough Artist, and Peter Capaldi and Rebecca Front winning Best TV Comedy Actor / Actress respectively for their roles in The Thick Of It. Although I did feel a bit sorry for Olivia Coleman given she was nominated twice in her category.
Seriously, Hunderby winning New Comedy Programme over Moone Boy and Alan Partridge - Welcome to the Places of My Life ("flying aids") is wrong. As it turns out, Julia Davis appears to be devoid of personality (if you need further proof, check out her recent interview on Alan Carr: Chatty Man) and therefore couldn't even make an acceptance speech. Thankfully, Coogan roared an "AAAH HAAAWW", which broke the tension somewhat. Then Hunderby went and won Best Sitcom over The Thick of It and Rev… What is wrong with the judges? Hunderby has been done a million times before. It just had high production values; the narrative was pants. The dialogue was pants. The first series of Nighty Night was fantastic, but that was Davis's finest hour. End of.
Best Sketch Show should've gone to Very Important People, not Cardinal Burns. Best Male TV Comic should've gone to any of the other nominees apart from Lee Mack (his sitcom is lacking in several departments). And Jack Whitehall winning the King or Queen of Comedy over the likes of Alan Carr, Graham Norton and David Mitchell was indeed laughable. Then again, at least he had the grace to say "This is a bit like when TOWIE won a BAFTA." Damn public vote.
