After a 15 year break Birds of a Feather is set for a comeback to our screens. The programme will return for a new series on ITV.
Creators of the programme Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, had previously approached the BBC with the idea of reviving the show but the station turned down the idea. In stepped rival station ITV who jumped at the chance to remake the sitcom, which one pulled in over 20 million viewers every week.
All the old cast are said to be on board with the project with actresses, Pauline Quirke, Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph to begin shooting in September. The popular show ran for 102 episodes and followed the lives of two sisters Sharon(Quirke) and Tracey (Robson) who move in together after both their husbands are jailed for arm robbery. Joseph plays their man eating neighbour Dorien.
An ITV insider told The Sun, 'The idea has been kicking around for a while and all the cast were up for it. Top brass heard that the writers had only been offered a one-off special at the BBC, so they decided to strike. The scripts are great and still crackling with the kind of gags that made it such a big success all those years ago. It's all very hush-hush right now but ITV are delighted that they've managed to land it'.
