JJ Abrams and Bad Robot may be more known to audiences for producing sci-fi fare like Lost, Westworld and, more recently, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but they're now branching into more conventional genre in television.

Deadline reports that Bad Robot's next excursion in television is a half-hour dramedy series based on the early life of RuPaul, best known for hosting pop culture phenomenon RuPaul's Drag Race. The series, which RuPaul will executive produce alongside JJ Abrams and others, will be set in '80s New York where RuPaul became known in the nightclub scene there.

The series, which hasn't been named as of yet, is described by Deadline as "a fictionalised version of RuPaul’s rise from club kid to drag queen, gay icon, and global star."

No casting has been announced as of yet, but it's expected that production will begin shortly once the series is signed up to a television studio and channel.
