Directed by Gerry Hoban, and presented by the famed 'Father Ted' actor, the special will examine Irish people and our close relationship with swear words.

'Holy F***' is a new one-off Ardal O'Hanlon documentary, brought to us by RTÉ and TV production company Loosehorse. Gerry and Ardal worked together on the acclaimed documentary 'Guess Who's Dead' a few years ago, and this is a follow-up companion piece of sorts.

Taking a deep dive into the Irish culture once again, Ardal will be examining how much of the Irish psyche is taken up with a heavy dose of the odd swear word. Linking swearing with science, culture, Irish language, history, linguistic evolution, religion, and sport, the presenter will try to answer why we swear so damn much. Or, do Irish people in fact swear even all that much?

Expect a funny, charming, thoughtful and light-hearted documentary with contributions from Tommy Tiernan, Bob Geldof, Hazel Chu and other Irish personalities.

Here's the trailer for 'Holy F***' - be warned, it has lots of filthy language.

TV company Loosehorse, who produced the documentary for RTÉ, have previously been involved in other hit documentaries and factual series such as 'The Boys in Green', 'The Man Who Wanted to Fly', and 'Future Island'.

The Ardal O'Hanlon documentary 'Holy F***' will air on RTÉ One this Sunday, May 9, at 9.30pm.
