We're big fans of LA Confidential here in the office so we got rather excited, and ever so slightly nervous when we heard rumblings about possible sequel for the hit 1997 movie. Yes, it would seem plans are afoot to continue the tale, but the characters will actually be heading to your telly, not the cinema screen.
As per Deadline, James Ellroy (who wrote the novel on which the film was based) is teaming up with New Regency (who produced the film) to attempt to sell the sequel to the television networks. If you're not familiar with the original, then here's the story: LA Confidential is based in Los Angeles (imagine that), and follows three rather different police officers as they investigate a series of murders in the increasingly corrupt city. Watch the trailer below: It'll give you a feel for the film.
Word on the street is that most of the original themes from the film (organised crime, political corruption, tabloid journalism and celebrity) will make their way into the TV series. I'm sure you'll agree they're all rather relevant in 2013, if we do say so ourselves.
We wouldn't be surprised to see the show getting the green light. Sure didn't the original do quite well for itself back in the day? With the likes of Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Kim Basinger and Iron Man 3 star Guy Pearce on board, the movie earned seven Oscar nominations, winning Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Basinger.
We'll keep you posted on this one, as we're rather excited to see what happens ourselves. Let's just hope they don't ruin the original...
