With news coming in over the weekend that Deadwood's Ian McShane is joining Game of Thrones' sixth season, we've got another casting update for the TV juggernaut.
Two-time Academy Award-nominated actor Max von Sydow is joining the cast as - wait, look away now if you don't want to know who he's going to be.

Gone? OK, Sydow will be playing a character known as the Three-Eyed Raven. Remember when Bran went underground and met the weird guy with the beard in the tree? That's the Three-Eyed Raven. He's also that weird, actual three-eyed raven that Bran kept seeing in his dreams.
Simply put, Three-Eyed Raven will be Bran's mentor while he trains him to be a warg. A warg, if you're not up on GoT mythology, is someone who's able to assume the point-of-view and abilities of a creature or person. Bran displayed these abilities throughout the series, most notably when he embodied Hodor and beat the crap out of the skeleton warriors.
Sydow will be next seen in (SQUEE!) The Force Awakens in an unspecified role, but we've got plenty of theories on that as well.
What this casting does, more than anything, shows just how much clout and pull Game of Thrones has. After a somewhat rocky start to last season, it finished out in splendid fashion.
Not only that, we literally have no idea what's going to happen next. The series has now caught up with the books, so next season will be uncharted territory for everyone.
We cannot wait.
