Although the fourth season left a lot to be desired (and, in our opinion, should be the end for the series), there's still fans out there clamouring for more.

However, for Martin Freeman, going back to Sherlock is looking decidedly less likely. In a frank interview with the Telegraph, the actor got candid about the series. On the topic of meeting people's expectations in the fourth season, Freeman admitted that it was "kind of impossible."

"Sherlock became the animal that it became immediately. Whereas even with The Office, it was a slow burn. But Sherlock was frankly notably high quality from the outset. And when you start (that high) it’s pretty hard to maintain that," explained Freeman.

"People’s expectations, some of it’s not fun anymore. It’s not a thing to be enjoyed, it’s a thing of: ‘You better f—ing do this, otherwise, you’re a c—.’ That’s not fun anymore."

When asked on the topic of a fifth season, Freeman wasn't exactly filled with optimism about it, and said that the reception to the last season is partially the reason nobody - himself included - is looking to go back to it.

"I think after series four (it) felt like a pause. I think we felt we’d done it for a bit now. And part of it, speaking for myself is (due to) the reception of it.”

Ooof. Sherlock is currently available on Netflix UK and Ireland.
