It's hard to believe that it's been over twenty years since '8 Mile' was released.
The 2002 film loosely told the story of Eminem's early life and rise to fame on the gritty streets of Detroit, with the title referencing 8 Mile Road, the highway that runs through the city of his birth. The rapper played a character called Jimmy Smith Jr. in the film, who performed under the name B-Rabbit - and it had many parallels with his own life story.
The film was a huge success and even bagged Eminem an Oscar for 'Best Original Song' for 'Lose Yourself'.
Now, it's set to be adapted for the small screen, and none other than 50 Cent aka Curtis Jackson is behind it all.
He told Big Boy TV: "I'm gonna bring his 8 Mile to television. We’re in motion. It’s gonna be big. I ain’t got no duds. I’m battin’ a hundred, I’m battin’ a hundred."
He added that Eminem was also on board the project, and it didn't take much convincing for him to become involved. "I think it should be there for his legacy," he said, "because it’s important to me that they understand it."
Jackson added that the series would not follow the exact story of the film, instead comparing it to 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' 'reimagined' reboot from last year.
"I wanna be able to show and offer a lot more details - things that you would say in an interview or different things that you’ve already used that you put out there and stuff like that," he said. "You’ll see those things kind of surface in the temperament of the characters."
