Irish actor Aidan Turner stars in this brand new period drama for the BBC based on the novels by Winston Graham which was also adapted into a famous TV series in the seventies too. Set in late 18th-century Cornwall, Ross Poldark joins the army to avoid charges of smuggling, leaving behind his lovely lady Elizabeth. He returns three years later after the American War of Independence and finds things aren't quite as he left them. His father has died, his estate is in ruins and young Elizabeth is engaged to another man. Bummer, ey? He decides he needs a bit of help around the place and takes on a new kitchen maid after rescuing her from a beating, but this does NOT go down well with the locals...
