Mattie is a new six-part comedy starring Pat Shortt, following on from the pilot, which aired on Christmas Day 2009. I remember it well. Me and the family huddled around the TV. Half of us opted for a game of Scrabble after the first ad break... Mattie was written by Pat Shortt, Mike Finn (Killinaskully, Inside the Crystal Ball) and David Cummings (The Fast Show). The series was directed by Shimmy Marcus (Soulboy, Headrush) and was shot over a six-week period at both various locations in Limerick city and county and in the studio. After years as a country cop, Mattie (Pat Shortt) is teamed up with feisty female detective Sharon Kelly (Lesley Conroy) and struggles to adapt to the rough and tumble of city policing, but always manages to get his man, despite many comic misadventures. In this first episode, A slip-up by Mattie means that he and Sharon miss out on the top job of guarding the minister. Thankfully Father Ted follows on RTE2 at 9.00pm. It's the one with Mr. Mustard, the milkman.
