Notorious outlaw Billy the Kid is urged to give up his banditry and flee to Mexico by his partner in crime Pat Garrett, advice he ultimately refuses. Garrett, seeing a chance to start a new life in the changing world, accepts an offer to become a lawman and hunt down his old friend.
