'Roald Dahl’s The Witches' starring Anne Hathaway will be skipping cinemas and heading straight to on demand.

'The Witches' was previously adapted for the big screen in 1990 with Anjelica Huston.

The new adaptation of the classic children's novel is directed by Robert Zemeckis of 'Back to the Future' and 'Forrest Gump' fame.

Octavia Spencer and Stanley Tucci co-star while Chris Rock plays the narrator.

The movie follows an orphaned seven year old boy who has a run-in with witches. The Grand High Witch (Hathaway) turns him into a mouse.

'The Witches' will be heading to HBO Max in the US.

Here in Ireland and the UK, it's available to rent on Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) from later this month.

It arrives four days after its US release, and just in time for Halloween.

As with previous PVOD releases like 'Trolls World Tour', another family feature, 'The Witches' will be available for a 48-hour rental from participating digital retailers.

This is likely to include such platforms as iTunes, Amazon, Sky, Microsoft, Apple TV and more.

Anne Hathaway previously told us: "It's so exciting. And what [Robert Zemeckis is] doing is so charming. It's going to be scary, I guess, because it will be, but I can't really say anything more! I'm just really excited to be a part of it."

'The Witches' arrives on PVOD this October 26.
