Ryan Murphy's latest Netflix feature looks like it will be dazzling us this winter.
What a busy year it's been for Ryan Murphy. After signing quite a hefty deal with the streamer, he's knocked out a number of hits this year. From 'Hollywood', to 'Ratched', 'The Boys in the Band', to 'A Secret Love', he's been non-stop. (Well, we didn't get our tenth season of 'American Horror Story', but we'll let that slide for now).
However, he has one final piece of razzle-dazzle in his back pocket for the end of the year, and it looks spectacular. Starring Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, Kerry Washington, Andrew Rannells, Keegan-Michael Key, and James Corden, 'The Prom' is set to light up our screens this December.
Billed as a musical, 'The prom' first premiered on Broadway in 2018. The storyline follows four old Broadway actors who are lamenting their whirlwind past, and who travel to a conservative town in order to help out a lesbian couple for their school prom.
Here's the full synopsis of the musical:
Dee Dee Allen (Meryl Streep) and Barry Glickman (James Corden) are New York City stage stars with a crisis on their hands: their expensive new Broadway show is a major flop that has suddenly flatlined their careers. Meanwhile, in small-town Indiana, high school student Emma Nolan (Jo Ellen Pellman) is experiencing a very different kind of heartbreak: despite the support of the high school principal (Keegan-Michael Key), the head of the PTA (Kerry Washington) has banned her from attending the prom with her girlfriend, Alyssa (Ariana DeBose). When Dee Dee and Barry decide that Emma's predicament is the perfect cause to help resurrect their public images, they hit the road with Angie (Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman) and Trent (Andrew Rannells), another pair of cynical actors looking for a professional lift. But when their self-absorbed celebrity activism unexpectedly backfires, the foursome find their own lives upended as they rally to give Emma a night where she can truly celebrate who she is.
