Hurricane Ophelia is set to rain the biggest storm of the century upon us today so we really hope you have taken heed of warnings and are staying out of harm's way. If you're very lucky, you're even using it as a chance to have a well-deserved duvet day.

Hopefully you have power and internet (which we assume you do if you're reading this), and if so, you may find yourselves in need of some distraction from the constant Ophelia updates and want to get stuck into a show or movie.

Thankfully, Netflix have made some great additions to their streaming service recently.

Here are some of our suggestions:

1. Mindhunter

Directed by David Fincher and 'Amy' and 'Senna' director Asif Kapadia, Mindhunter is the latest original drama from Netflix, with all ten episodes dropping on Friday.

Based on 'Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit', a non-fiction book by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker about agents of the FBI’s Investigative Support Unit, the series is set in 1979 and follows Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany as they set out to get into the mindset of serial killers and psychopaths so that they might have an easier time identifying and catching them.

If you have watched already, you can read our review here.

2. The Good Place

This American comedy first aired stateside last year, but Netflix are streaming the second season week by week this side of the pond, while season one was added in September. It's created by Parks and Recreation's Mike Schur and stars Kristin Bell as a woman who accidentally finds herself in the 'good place' after her death following a mistaken identity, but becomes determined to hold onto her spot there. Ted Danson also stars and sure who doesn't love good old Ted. It's the second season when this show really comes into its own however so do stick with it.

3. Stranger Things

This is on the list only as a reminder to those that somehow didn't get round to watching it since the summer of 2016, as the new season is less than a fortnight away. Or perhaps you just want a reminder of the strange goings on of the town of Hawkins before we return to the Upside Down on Friday, 27th October.

4. The Meyerowitz Stories

Yes, we know, a film that stars Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller usually has us running for the hills too these days, but brace yourselves, this one is actually getting good reviews. Some are saying it's one of Sandler's best performances yet, up there with Punch-Drunk Love in 2003.

Written and directed by Noah Baumbach, it tells the story of siblings (Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, and Elizabeth Marvel) contending with the long shadow their strong-willed father (Dustin Hoffman) has cast over their lives. It's already got 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, so curiosity is reason enough to give this one a watch.

5. Atypical

This show really took us by surprise recently. It's a comedy that follows the story of a teenager on the autism spectrum called Sam. Genuinely funny but smart too and has a real heart to it. There's only eight half-hour episodes so you will fly through it and honestly, be all the better for it afterwards.

6. Gaga: Five Foot Two

Lady Gaga is one of the most prominent pop cultures figures of the 21st century with legions of fans across the world. This documentary offers a vulnerable look at her life during one of the most pivotal periods in her career yet. Directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Chris Moukarbel (Banksy Does New York, Me at the Zoo), the film is shot in the style of cinema verité, giving viewers unfiltered, behind-the-scenes access as Gaga spends time with close friends and family members, records and releases her 2016 album 'Joanne' as well as dealing with her own personal struggles.

7. American Vandal

In a TV landscape that is getting more and more overpopulated with true crime series', it really is a genre that's crying out for satire. Enter American Vandal, an eight episode half-hour series that explores the aftermath of a costly high school prank that left twenty-seven faculty cars vandalized with phallic images. Yes, you read that right. The controversy leads to an aspiring sophomore documentarian investigating the potentially unjust expulsion of senior Dylan Maxwell.

8. Marc Maron: Too Real - Stand-up Special

If you're in the mood for some stand-up, comedian/actor/podcast presenter Marc Maron released a special on Netflix last month. Filmed in front of a live audience in Minneapolis, it sees him comment on everything from meditation, mortality, documentary films, and our weird modern world.

9. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Because when is it not a good time to watch an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia?

Never, is when.
