The fifth season of ‘Black Mirror’ is said to be featuring an interactive episode similar to the ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ format that blends elements of video games with traditional television viewing.

The news comes from Bloomberg, which reports that the new season will roll out this December. Season 4 was released on December 29th last year.

It is said that one of the new episodes of season five will allow fans to interact with the story, making key decisions for a protagonist that determines their dystopian fate and how the show will end.

Citing sources close to the company, Bloomberg reports that Netflix is actually developing a slate of interactive projects where viewers get to choose the narrative in the story.

The streaming service has tried basic interactivity with a handful of children’s shows such as ‘Puss in Boots.’ HBO broke into interactivity with Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Mosaic’.

The ‘Black Mirror’ episode is expected to take such interactivity to another level.

Given the ground-breaking and experimental nature of the sci fi series, it seems like the right place to try it out. In the past, the show has explored the social implications of technology, including one of their most famous episodes, where people compete to receive higher ratings from their peers.

Season 5 went into production earlier this year and is still currently shooting.
