The next MCU Disney+ series is in development, and fans are already guessing about one fan-favourite character who could be making an appearance.

The newest Marvel superhero to be getting the Disney+ series treatment is Wonder Man, based on the comic book character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby all the way back in 1964. But could Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda also make an appearance? Her close ties to Wonder Man could be an indication that she'll return.

*SPOILERS FOR 'DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS' BELOW*

Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlett Witch is arguably one of the strongest superheroes/supervillains to grace our screens in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following the dramatic (and thoroughly unhinged) escapades of 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness', the deeply troubled character finally embraced the dark side once again and unleashed a pretty terrifying mind game for anyone who crossed her path. At the end of the action film, the evil temple named Mount Wundagore collapses in on her. But as we all know, if a character doesn't die on-screen (or even if they do *ahem* Loki), we can safely assume they'll be back in the future.

And so it seems like Wanda could be back in a Wonder Man future. The superhero, named Simon Williams, first appeared in 'Avengers #9' as a supervillain, after which he was disposed of and presumed dead. The character later returned to join The West Coast Avengers and has close ties with Wanda, Vision, Wasp and The X-Men's Rogue. After Vision's death, Wanda and Wonder Man became an item...

In the comics, he gained his superhuman powers of strength, speed teleportation and "ionic" energy due to chemical and radiation treatments from Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl most recently reprised this role in 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier'). The hero made it to 38th place on IGN's list of 'The Top 50 Avengers'.

Nathan Fillion has stood in for the superhero in some background shots for James Gunn's 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' (eventually getting cut from the final film) and the actor also voiced the character in Hulu/Disney+'s 'M.O.D.O.K.' animated series. It seems likely that Kevin Feige and co will recast the character for the series.

'Shang-Chi' filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton is teaming with the 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' and 'Community' writer Andrew Guest for the 'Wonder Man' series on Disney+. Should everything go to plan, filming is expected to begin in 2023.

'Ms. Marvel' is currently streaming on Disney+, the latest MCU series on the platform. 'She-Hulk: Attorney at Law' will arrive this August, as will an 'I Am Groot' shorts series and a holiday special based on 'The Guardians of the Galaxy' later this year.
