Anyone who follows the works of Ricky Gervais will be well aware he typically does not do three seasons.

'The Office', 'Extras', and 'Derek' all ran for two seasons, plus a special. So most would safely assume that the latest show written by and starring Ricky Gervais in the lead role - 'After Life' - would follow suit.

While also a comedy drama, the latest from the comedian is a more sombre offering than we're used to.

Gervais plays Tony, who is navigating life after his wife, the love of his life, dies from breast cancer.

Season 2 is set to be released on Netflix very soon - Friday week, in fact.

And Gervais has hinted this may not be the last time we see Tony and the gang.

He feels there is room for expansion of the characters and story.

Speaking to the Series Linked podcast (via The Mirror), he said: "This one, I want to do a third, I think. Because I’ve never set up such a world before. This is a real place.

“Every path leads to the rest of the world. Like real life. Every path leads to a new world, and how often do you know a character?

“You’ve seen those characters for five-and-a-half hours. You don’t know anyone after five-and-a-half hours, and you don’t know their friends.”

He adds: “I love the crew, I love the cast, I love the characters and I love the dog.”

Ricky Gervais also spoke about the overwhelming response he has had from fans, commenting: “I’ve never had a reaction like it for anything I’ve ever done. Mainly the emotional reaction.

“This has got to be really good, because you don’t want to disappoint the people who loved it. What’s great about two is you can explore it more.”

'After Life' season 2 arrives on Netflix on April 24th.
