"Nothing eventful ever happens in the peaceful New Raccoon City."

'Resident Evil' on Netflix has unleashed its first-look teaser trailer, showing off a zombified Raccoon City of the future.

Based on the extremely popular video game franchise, this new live-action Netflix series flashes forward into the year 2036 following the destruction of what once was New Raccoon City. Now overrun with flesh-eating zombies (and no doubt countless other murderous entities), it's up to newcomer Jade Wesker (played by Ella Balinska) to try and survive in the apocalypse day by day.

But the thing is though, her father Albert Wesker has a chilling connection to the mysterious Umbrella Corporation and she's looking for answers as to where her sister Billie disappeared all those years ago in 2022.

Lance Reddick ('John Wick') stars as the villain in question, lifted straight from the Capcom video game franchise. Promising the two young sisters a bright new future in New Raccoon City, he tells them when they arrive at the apparent paradise in the present day: "I really think you guys are going to love it here."

From what we can see in the teaser trailer below, 'Resident Evil' on Netflix will be crammed full of action, horror and plenty of blood - very much in line with the video game series. Of course, this is far from the first live-action take on the horror series, with Milla Jovovich leading six movies "inspired by" the games. There was also 2021's fresh take 'Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City', which was more in line with the source material, but failed to be that memorable.

Could 'Resident Evil' win over fans to be the best take on the series so far? With so many critically-panned efforts in the past, here's hoping.

Here's the blood-soaked trailer, featuring what looks to be a brand new Netflix graphic for their "Tudum".

Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza, Connor Gossatti and Turlough Convery also star.

Year 2036 – 14 years after Joy caused so much pain, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and mind-shattering creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the sinister Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.

'Resident Evil' stars streaming on Netflix from Thursday, July 14.
