There are a few surprises in the cast lineup of the newest Disney+ 'Star Wars' series.

Ewan McGregor has a sprawling lineup to take care of in the next 'Star Wars' special event series. The 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' cast has been unveiled today, which includes some new and returning faces.

Joining Ewan as the titular character will be Hayden Christensen, who was known to be reprising his role as Darth Vader. Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse will also return to the franchise, as Uncle Owen Lars and Aunt Beru Lars from 'Star Wars: Attack of the Clones'. Indira Varma, of 'Game of Thrones' fame, was previously announced as being part of the cast a number of weeks ago.

Kumail Nanjiani, Moses Ingram, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie will all join the 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' cast too.

Here's a full breakdown of each actor, which was tweeted by the official Star Wars page on Twitter.

The first plot details about the series have also been released. According to a press release from Disney+: "The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of 'Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith' where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader."

Production on 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' is to get underway in April and is executive produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Ewan McGregor, Michelle Rejwan, and Deborah Chow. Chow will direct the series.

'Obi-Wan Kenobi' is just one of many 'Star Wars' spin-off series on the horizon from Disney+. 'The Book of Boba Fett' will be our next adventure into a galaxy far, far away when it begins streaming this December.

'Obi-Wan Kenobi' is expected to launch at some point in 2022.
