WIth a star-studded cast that includes Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel and many others, Martin Scorsese's return to the gangster genre - The Irishman - is easily one of the most anticipated films to come in the next couple of years.

Although no official release date has been scheduled for the film, the word is it'll arrive in 2019 - but the costs for the film are spiralling way past the original budget set down by Netflix. PageSix.com is reporting that the film's budget has now ballooned to $175 million - the largest budget of his career - and could possibly go even higher. The original budget was set at $125 million, with Netflix making an up-front payment of $105 million as well.

Granted, Netflix has deep pockets and recently announced a spend of $8 BILLION in the coming year on acquiring new content - so spending this amount of money on what could be very be will Scorsese's final gangster epic doesn't seem too bad. Still, an extra $50 million is basically the budget of an entire, decent-sized film.

On top of that, the film's shoot was the longest of Scorsese's career according to PageSix's source - 106 days, one day longer than Hugo. Filming ended this month, but the long time between now and 2019 is down to the extensive post-production process that has to take place to digitally de-age DeNiro, Pacino, Pesci and other actors, as the film takes place over decades.

As mentioned, no release date has been set for The Irishman as of yet.
