'The Witcher: Blood Origin' has cast a fantastic actor as the series' lead.
Jodie Turner-Smith, who caught our attention in 2019's 'Queen & Slim' opposite Daniel Kaluuya, will lead 'The Witcher' prequel series at Netflix.
According to Variety, Turner-smith will lead the series as a character named Éile (which almost translates to "other/another" as Gaeilge, if you include the extra fada) "The Lark" Lithe. Set 1,200 years before any of the events of the Henry Cavill series, Éile is a musician who leaves her clan and her job as the queen's guardian to "follow her heart".
Unfortunately, not everything goes as planned, and Éile must hone her fighting abilities to exact revenge on those who have wronged her.
The series is to be helmed by Irish director Declan de Barra ('Iron Fist', 'The Originals'). The Waterford man, who was one of the writers on the first series of 'The Witcher', will executive produce alongside Lauren Schmidt Hissrich ('The Umbrella Academy', 'Daredevil').
Jodie Turner-Smith is no stranger to getting her hands dirty on our screens. As well as 'Queen & Slim', the actor also starred in Netflix's 'Nightflyers' and the upcoming movie 'Tom Clancy's Without Remorse' with Michael B. Jordan.

'The Witcher: Blood Origin' will be a six-part series that "will tell a story lost to time". De Barra previously said of leading the series: "As a lifelong fan of fantasy, I am beyond excited to tell the story 'The Witcher: Blood Origin'. A question has been burning in my mind ever since I first read The Witcher books - What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans?"
Andrzej Sapkowski, whose books have inspired the Netflix series, will be part of the prequel series as a creative consultant. A release date of 2022 is likely.
In terms of the main series, 'The Witcher' season two is expected to arrive on Netflix in the second half of this year.
