With the arrival of Star on Disney+ this February, the streaming giant has announced a slate of new European content that will be arriving in the coming years.

Many ambitious Disney+ Europe productions are currently in development, which will fall mostly under the more adult-orientated leg of the streaming platform, Star.

Available in Ireland for nearly a year now, Disney+'s primary focus has been on 'The Mandalorian', 'WandaVision', 'Soul', and 'Mulan'. In the future however, Disney+ will be more to titles with more meat than just 'Star Wars', Marvel and Pixar titles.

Star, which launches here next week, will offer up a mix of new and classic TV shows and movies. Most of the collection will come from 20th Century Fox, since the Walt Disney Company took over ownership in 2019.

The first part of Disney’s ambition to commission 50 productions in Europe by 2024 was revealed today. The first 10 new Star Original titles announced will be produced in France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, spanning drama, comedy, sci-fi and documentary genres.

Four new French commissions include two new Star Originals and two Disney+ Originals. The titles are 'Oussekine', a true-drama series; 'Parallels', a fantasy series; comedy movie 'Weekend Family'; and documentary series 'Soprano: Sing or Die'.

There are also three new Italian commissions, with crime drama 'The Good Mothers', comedy series 'Boris', and a romantic drama inspired by 'Le Fate Ignoranti', called 'The Ignorant Angels'.

The two German commissions are 'Sam - A Saxon' and 'Sultan City', with a sports documentary from the Netherlands entitled 'Feyenoord Rotterdam' about the football club.

The announcement is in-line with new streaming regulations which the EU placed on on demand services. Since 2018, the likes of Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime must now adhere to strict rules if they wish to continue to be available in Europe. At least 30% of their content must be European.

Star will be a new brand under the Disney+ umbrella, arriving next Wednesday, February 23. Along with the likes of 'Pretty Woman', 'LOST', and 'Scrubs', there will also be four new Star Ogirinals which will be available. You can see the full list of titles available here.
