News of upcoming Disney+ series 'Andor' this week revealed that there is already a five-year narrative plan across two seasons for the 'Star Wars' show.
The spy thriller stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, the much-loved character from 2016's 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'. The prequel series will follow Andor all the way up until the events of the film, spanning five years.
Speaking to Empire, series creator Tony Gilroy said, "The scale of the show is so huge."
He then went on to reveal the structure of the series, which goes right up to the finale of the second season. He said that the directors worked in blocks of three episodes, consisting of four blocks for the first season.
This led to the decision for the second season to chronicle each remaining year until the events of 'Rogue One' in a three-episode block. "We looked and said, 'Wow, it’d be really interesting if we come back, and we use each block to represent a year. We’ll move a year closer with each block’."
"From a narrative point of view, it’s really exciting to be able to work on something where you do a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and then jump a year."
This series structure heavily implies that there will only be two seasons of 'Andor'. The finite nature of the show is also obvious considering Andor's fate in 'Rogue One'.
Starring alongside Luna are Fiona Shaw, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Genevieve O’Reilly, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller. Familiar faces are also expected to appear, according to Luna. Forest Whitaker returns as Saw Gerrera.
'Andor' releases on Disney+ on August 31.
