A reboot of the 1992 sports comedy has found its home on Amazon Prime.

Rumblings of 'A League of Their Own' TV series have been heard over the past number of years, but we can all stop our crying now as the forthcoming show is shaping up nicely, 28 years after the movie's original inception.

The original movie was directed by the late Penny Marshall, and the all-star cast was made up of Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Rosie O'Donnell, and Madonna. The sports team in question were all members of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which was founded after World War II began.

Creating an iconic sports comedy gold that is still a joy to watch today isn't easy, so new co-creators of this Amazon Prime series Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham have big shoes to fill. Jacobson co-created and starred in the comedy series 'Broad City', while Graham is known for executive producing 'Mozart in the Jungle'.

The series has already cast its stars and looks to have already shot much of its principal photography. Heading up the 'A League of Their Own' TV series will be Emmy nominee D'Arcy Carden (Janet from 'The Good Place'), BAFTA winner Gbemisola Ikumelo ('Brain in Gear' and 'Sex Education'), Chanté Adams ('Roxanne Roxanne'), Kelly McCormack ('A Simple Favor'), Roberta Colindrez ('The Deuce'), and Priscilla Delgado ('The Protected').

Guest stars on the series will also include Molly Ephraim ('The Front Runner'), Kate Berlant ('Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood'), and Melanie Field ('You').

Jacobson and Graham have said that their series will take: "A deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the League and outside of it.

"Twenty-eight years ago, Penny Marshall told us a story about women playing professional baseball that up until then had been largely overlooked. We grew up obsessed with the film, like everyone else.

"Three years ago, we approached Sony with the idea of telling a new, still overlooked set of those stories. With the help of an enormously talented team of collaborators, an amazing cast, and the devoted support of Amazon to this project, we feel beyond lucky and excited to get to bring these characters to life. It took grit, fire, authenticity, wild imagination and a crackling sense of humour for these players to achieve their dreams. We’re hoping to bring audiences a story with all of those qualities."
