We all have the characters we root for in Game of Thrones - Jon Snow, Tyrion, and the entire Stark clan, what's left of them. Then there are those that we hate with the fire of a thousand suns - your Ramsays and your Joffreys and what not. However it's characters like Jaime Lannister that can truly make Game of Thrones so compelling to watch.
In the very first episode he was undoubtedly the most hated character, he pushed Bran Stark out a window for crying out loud, marking the very first moment of a series that we knew could and would do whatever it wanted. He was also having an affair with his twin sister Cersei, so you know, gross.
However, at some point along the way (we like to think it was his road trip with Brienne of Tarth) something started to shift in Jaime's character. We learned that although he did murder a King, it was actually for a fairly solid reason, given that said King had gone mad and wanted to 'burn them all'. He also saved Brienne from a bear, and had his fighting hand cut off, which was a bit of a tough break in fairness.
He's no angel, by any means, but he has, for the most part, shown that love and family are his primary motivation, and that despite all that might have happened, there is a good man in there somewhere, as much as he may struggle to get out.
The last two seasons may prove the most interesting for Jaime yet, as he is faced with dealing with a sister who has done pretty much exactly what the mad King wanted to do and burned them all. We have a feeling that Cersei's fate may one day lie in Jaime's hands, or eh, hand, and that might not work out too well for her.
On the plus side, Jaime may then finally be emotionally available enough to walk off into the sunset with Brienne of Tarth.
Sorry Tormund.
