We may not have had the weather this summer, or even a functioning government, but byjaysus did we have the Irish fans out in France. They lifted the spirits of all who crossed their paths, fixed flat tyres, picked up rubbish, serenaded ladies, sang mass songs on the train - nothing was beyond the reach of an Irish fan. It was the teenage equivalent of behaving like an angel in your mate's house but returning to your skulking ways when you got home.

We couldn't get enough of them either, as we all collectively gave ourselves a pat on the back for being a nation of sound b*st**ds. The curtain has long since drawn on the Euros, but it seems there are some hardcore Irish fans who are struggling to let go.

Never fear though, Charlie Bird is on hand to help.

You can see this sketch and more on the first episode of the new series of Republic of Telly tonight on RTE2 at 10pm.
